Senior Journal Manager, Production – Scholarly Publishing

One of the world’s leading scholarly publishers is recruiting for a Senior Journal Manager to manage the production process for a portfolio of complex and high-profile journals. The role will ensure an exceptional production performance and service and acts as a single point of contact for external clients and internal stakeholders. The main focus of the role is to deliver highly responsive day-to-day support to ensure the production processes and outputs match client needs.

Key responsibilities

 

  • Manage the production process for a portfolio of high-intervention journals, acting as a single point of contact if required for queries and feedback received from the client
  • Provide reports to clients, demonstrating production performance against agreed goals, providing contextual information and analysis, and where appropriate making recommendations to improve
  • Consult with clients on options for all aspects of the production process, making recommendations and highlighting risks
  • Ensure any updates to client requirements are promptly and accurately communicated to the relevant internal teams
  • As required, represent production services in conference calls and face-to-face meetings with clients, potentially including occasional travel
  • Lead, participate in, or initiate projects that develop and standardize production processes within the department
  • Maintain journal level documentation
  • Manage supplier delivery of articles, issues, and journal-level change/developments
  • Intervene or provide guidance during journal issue workflow as needed
  • Train, mentor, coach or advise new and existing staff, both in general and with specific reference to author support.

Ideal candidates will have experience of client account management ideally in a publishing environment. Individuals will need to be highly organised and able to work independently whilst handling multiple projects simultaneously. Strong negotiation and influencing skills will be required to be able to communicate complex information clearly and help clients make the right decisions for the production. Candidates with demonstrable experience of working in production, including the management of new or significantly complex works would have an advantage.
